What Centerville patients can expect from the dental implants procedure

At Alex Bell Dental, we understand the importance of replacing missing teeth. We work with all of our patients on replacement solutions that will provide both beauty and functionality. One solution that we find to be one of the best forms of tooth replacement is dental implants. Dental implants are highly versatile and can fully restore functionality as well as the appearance of the smile. With proper oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime.

What Centerville patients can expect from the dental implants procedure

Replacing missing teeth is important for both the appearance and the health of the smile. When gaps are left in the smile by missing teeth, it can cause the jawbone to deteriorate. Neighboring teeth may begin to shift, and could eventually become loose and fall out, or require extraction. By replacing missing teeth with dental implants, the jawbone is properly stimulated to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Many patients are initially overwhelmed at the dental implant procedure since the process requires multiple appointments over several months. For our patients who opt for dental implants, we walk you through the entire process so that you have a complete understanding before beginning treatment. By setting proper expectations about dental implants, you can ensure there will be no surprises and you’ll be enjoying your brand new smile in no time.

Dental implants can be used for a single missing tooth up to replacement of an entire arch of teeth. The first portion of the procedure involves the initial placement of the implant in the jawbone. Once the implant is securely in place, we then cover it with gum tissue to protect it while the area is left to heal. This process, known as osseointegration, is one of the most important parts of dental implants. As it heals, the bone will fuse with the implant, creating a stable support structure for a replacement such as a crown or denture. Osseointegration time differs for each patient, but usually takes several months.

Once the area is completely healed, the abutment (connector for the prosthetic) and the prosthetic can be placed.
